 Buckle Comparison-breakaway vs non-breakaway (black style shown below) | Please read this important information regarding the difference between the 3/8″ non-breakaway and breakaway buckles. The buckle insert on the left is the breakaway buckle. The left outside post is missing the outside “lump”. This is what allows the buckle to breakaway when pulled. NEVER use this buckle with a leash. The insert on the right is the non-breakaway buckle. NEVER use this insert to make cat collars. Both inserts use the same female. |

The buckle insert on the left is the breakaway buckle. The lumps on the posts are missing the sharp points at the top. This is what allows the buckle to breakaway when pulled. NEVER use this buckle with a leash. The insert on the right is the non-breakaway buckle. NEVER use this insert to make cat collars. The bottom photo shows the breakaway female half on the left. It has a rounded shape and is missing the two bars inside. The female half on the right is the non-breakaway. The breakaway buckles are slightly slimmer. |
| Please note, these buckles do not pull apart by hand easily. Release the buckle using the side release. Flex male tines several times. Reassemble buckle. Thread webbing in each slot, pull apart. | |
